Who or What is ‘hafur’?

I like sharks. I think sharks are fascinating animals. As I came up with the idea of my homepage, I wanted a name related to sharks.
While searching for a well-sounding word for shark in any language, I stumpled upon hafur. Originally, I thought it was the general word for shark in the iclandic language since I was taught better.
The name hafur [ha-fur] originates from the iclandic word for the spiny dogfish – a small species in the shark family.
Since I like sharks a lot, I condemn the slaughtery of sharks. Sharks are an endangered species around the world – one of them is the spiny dogfish. The spiny dogfish is way overfished as it is served as a delicacy in Europe.

At the same time Hafur is also a city in Iceland:
